Blacksburg is a town of roughly 43,000 residents in Montgomery County, Virginia, in the United States. Nestled in the picturesque New River Valley, enveloped by the Appalachian Mountains, the town boasts natural beauty with its hiking trails and parks. Notably recognised as the residence of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg is affectionately known as Hokie Nation, embodying a robust school spirit and pride. However, amidst its positive attributes, the town has witnessed tragic events. In April 2007, it became the backdrop for one of the deadliest school shootings in the United States—the Virginia Tech shooting. Less than ten years later, another tragedy unfolded, raising questions about teenager’s safety online.
