Via DNA, they identified the toddler as Alisha Ann Heinrich. Her 23-year-old mother was never heard from again after moving out of state with her boyfriend, the family says. She’s presumed deceased when you consider what Hammond saw, but technically could still be alive; she’d be about 62 now.

It’s definitely a sad situation, but heartwarming that Virgil Moore still cares so much. I hope the ongoing investigation will include submission of her DNA to a genealogy database to find blood relatives, in order to discover her identity… and to give back her rightful name. Cheers!
